The hydraulic power steering system is an essential part of the modern day vehicle and has been for many years, but for some reason this is ignored as a service item by many garages including vehicle manufactures, the oil has just been left until it gets so contaminated the lubrication propitiates are greatly reduced resulting in either steering rack or pump failure and therefor costly repair bills, on older vehicles a new steering rack can cost more than the vehicle is worth.
At Millers Garage we believe prevention is better than cure. We have always carried out steering system fluid changes and we recommend this needs doing every 40,000 miles or 4 years. We used to do this manually, and although this would help extend the life of the power steering system it would only change around 50% off the fluid - the new fluid was contaminated straight away.
Now with our new revolutionary BG PXT2 service tool we can carry out a 100% fluid exchange, this ensures the new oil can be 100% effective and greatly extending the life of the steering hydraulic system.
Dual Clutch Technology gearboxes are basically a conventional manual gearbox with up to 7 gears with an electronically controlled dual-clutch multiple-shaft manual gearbox, in a transaxle design - without a conventional clutch pedal, and with full automatic, or semi-manual control that uses a double clutch system and hydro-electric shifting mechanism to pre select the next gear you need before you need it, these systems are replacing the standard automatic gearboxes which have become common place, Everything in car technology is driven by emissions and efficiency, Dual Clutch boxes are far more efficient than standard auto gearboxes and will now become common place in the modern motor vehicle.
The most common Dual Clutch Gearbox in the market is the direct-shift gearbox and is commonly abbreviated to DSG. This box is used by the VAG group, and these are commonly fitted to the 1.4 and 1.6 TDI VW's, Audi's, Skoda's and Seats. Ford Peugeot, Renault, Fiat, Hyundai and Kia have also developed their own versions of the Dual Clutch transmission. The first actual dual-clutch transmissions derived from Porsche in-house development for 962 racing cars in the 1980s.
LUK are the company that designed and hold the patient for Dual Clutch Transmissions and we have been through the LUK training course and are among the very few independent garages in the country that are able to repair and renew the clutches in these units other than the main dealers, so we can save you hundreds of £££££'s. Without the qualifications a garage can't buy the parts or the tooling required to do these jobs and even if they somehow they do manage to get hold of what is needed, the only people that can provide the 4 year warranty that LUK offer with these clutches are garages like us who are qualified to work on DSG gearboxes.
